On 14th September, European Union Chamber of Commerce in China celebrated the 5th anniversary of its Sustainable Business Awards Conference and Ceremony in Shanghai. Ferrero China was honored with “Navigating Diversity and Inclusion Award” for its excellent practices in building a diverse and inclusive culture. As one of the five categories of Sustainable Business Awards, “Navigating Diversity and Inclusion Award” is aimed to recognize a company’s achievement in overall strategic planning and pioneering role of facilitating multi-stakeholders to realize UN Sustainability Development Goals in its China operations. Mr. Michele Cecchi, Consul General of Italy in Shanghai, presented the award to Ferrero China.

Building a truly inclusive environment takes time and requires the development of processes and guidelines to support the change. In FY 2019/2020, we started the deployment of a three-year plan including a full set of initiatives addressing aspects such as recruitment, succession planning, learning, flexible working and reward. We have taken actions including appointing the Company’s first Global Diversity and Inclusion Manager, establishing D&I council at both regional and central level and nominating 17 Regional D&I Ambassadors.

In line with global objectives and guidelines, we, taking into consideration where we are in terms of D&I promotion in China, have defined our local phased 3-year plan. We started our journey of diversity and inclusion with learning and exploring the relevant topics. Leveraging our existing online communication channel, Learning Bites, we invited experts with diversified backgrounds to talk about different D&I related topics. Looking ahead, we will continue to evolve our strategy focusing on creating an inclusive mindset, laying solid foundations to put inclusive policies and process into practice.

The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China strives to drive sustainability to the center of attention with the Sustainability Business Awards. Its objective is to highlight innovation leadership achievements, advance sustainability awareness, and promote responsible business models to organizations in China who wish to adopt responsible business competition. The European Chamber Sustainability Business Awards have been continuously improving, growing, and promoting awareness since being established in 2017. Categories are adapted to best reflect CSR standards and continue to follow United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals and China’s long-term policies on environmental protection and rural revitalization.
